ABOUT NCA

Admittedly it is more than a bit egocentric to have what is essentially a “blog,” but in truth I do not view it as so much a blog but more as an up to date “sandbox,” which is what I called anything I committed to paper when I was in college so, so many decades ago.  That is, a sandbox in which I could play to my heart’s content, building castles of sand or abstract undulating mounds, or anything else I desired — and most importantly, as I brazenly told my professors, my writings and essays were my sandbox, not their litter box, so tread lightly!  Ahhh, the arrogance of youth!  Now as a dotard chastened by years and life, I more firmly embrace the title of the autobiography that I announced in college that I would someday write: The Ramblings of a Fool.  For Fool that I am, I am more readily convinced that I know less and less every day and would not presume to declare with certainty anything except that anyone who proclaims anything with certainty is more a fool than I am.
In any event, this site shall serve as little more than ethereal paper for jotting down thoughts, queries, ruminations, and other such rot in one central location.  I have found that when I attempt to commit my passing fancies to paper, I quickly find that the paper is here, there, and everywhere.  At least the ether is, somehow, more magically fixed for these purposes, than paper and ink.
I have also found it useful to locate here the series of articles that I wrote several years ago for The Beacon about the Edgewater Neighborhood in the Gilded Age.  These will, with any perseverance, be transformed into a short little pamphlet or book, with some editorial polish.  But in the meantime, because I am asked for copies of them with frequency, I can refer folks here.
